Hey guys
This being my first weekly check in, I’m just going to muddle through and do my best. I do tend to overshare, I apologize in advance.
So, 50 days left until Christmas! Talk about stress for someone who likes to make their loved ones gifts.
I have been editing myself down though. I basically started with nearly as many projects as there were days left until the holiday. I tend to always bury myself in lofty goals that can never realistically be achieved, but man, I have high hopes.
Over the years I’ve learned that I need to edit myself down to something that can actually be done instead of killing myself with so much pressure that I crumble. I’m happy to report that I’m down to more manageable goals.
I also am thrilled to have a commission to knock out for one of my dear friends ❤
I think it’s going to turn out great! Remember when I tested the Flower of Life Jacket by Starlily Creations? Well you’ll get to see that design in a green variation here shortly! It’s already turning out so pretty!

Here are the colors I’m working with.

In a solid block I LOVE the way that this variegated yarn looks!! But with the flower of life stitch it’s a little trickier. It doesn’t look quite as fabulous. I spent a lot of time experimenting with color combinations. Layered my colors differently, tried to figure out how to integrate these 4 colors and split them into an odd number of design repeats. The perfectionist in me that likes pattern and color repeats was having some trouble.

Well I’m happy to report I got a solid handle on how I want to do this. And so far, it’s looking pretty great if I do say so myself.

Now an important part of working on any project would be getting the colors right. I know it seems like once you buy your yarn selection, you should be fine, but as you’ve seen above, that’s just one tiny step in the process.
It can be difficult to really know what something look like until you actually put in the time and the stitches. As you saw with the dark green yarn laying next to the two that I practiced with, it was still a little hard to imagine what it would look like going around. Let alone how it would look once the next color was added.
That’s something that is a challenge for most crochet artists I would think. I’m in dozens of crochet groups and some of the most common posts are pictures of skeins of yarn, asking for suggestions on color combinations.
It never hurts to have another set of eyes no matter how experienced you are.
Aside from this project I’m working on some Christmas projects and working to get things in order for the holidays.
I say this now, I know the excitement will fade quickly, but I really can’t wait for holiday baking!
I plan on making some potato candy this year as well! Been quite a while but I can’t wait to have some again! I’m actually pretty thrilled with my whole list of things. Will also be attempting hard candies, another thing I haven’t made in years.
So much excitement!
Hope you all have a fantastic and productive week!
